Jennifer Lawrence has described standing up for herself after she found that crew members who had not been approved were present while she filmed a nude scene.
The Oscar-winning actress shared the story in a conversation with Alex Cooper, host of the podcast Call Her Daddy. She did not say which film the incident took place on. She recalled that she pushed back against having unapproved people around during an intimate scene.
"There was like an instance on set where crew members who weren't approved when I was doing nudity, [they] were on set," Lawrence said. "And I came down hard on it purely because if we're not setting that kind of principle at the level at which we're doing it right now, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old unknown?"
Lawrence explained the pressure a less established performer might face in the same situation. If a young actress arrives and finds people present who have not been approved, she said, that person may wonder whether to speak up and risk a reputation for being difficult, or stay silent and let people she is uncomfortable with see her naked.
"So it was important to me to explain that to the people why that was not OK," Lawrence said.
Her account echoes an experience described by actress Esmé Bianco during the first season of Game of Thrones. In the book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, Bianco recalled that the set was meant to be closed. "I look behind me and there's three guys all holding one flag over a light. I'm buck naked," she said.
Bianco also spoke up at the time. "[I said], 'Hang on a second. Since when does it take three people to hold that? They need to leave!'" she recalled.
In the same interview, Lawrence also confirmed that she is returning as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. She said she will be reuniting with her former co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson.
