Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., reentered public life in Minnesota on Friday, sharing a video of a quiet lakeside walk with her husband, Tim Mynett. The post appeared days after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home as part of a criminal fraud investigation.
The congresswoman captioned the X post with the phrase, "Less scrolling, more strolling. Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes." The footage shows the pair walking across a dock surrounded by fall foliage. They are seen posing, smiling, and holding coffee while the lawmaker, who is running for reelection, chats with her husband. The clip concludes with a photo montage from their outing.
The visual calm contrasts with the audio track, a Somali hip-hop song by artist Ilkacase Qays, whose real name is Muse Abdikadir. His website identifies him as a U.S.-based Somali singer and rapper. The track, titled "Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya," features Somali singer Hodan Abdirahman.
A translation of the lyrics provided to Fox News Digital describes a persona of dominance and confidence. The singer states, "Let me reveal who I really am. No enemy dares threaten me, wherever I step, they scatter." The lyrics continue, "They flee and stay far away. I have always been the source of their distress."
The song also includes lines about defeating opponents. The lyrics say, "If the just one had felt anger on my behalf, would he not have crushed the enemy underfoot?" Another verse warns, "You go without sleep, overcome with anguish, weeping in spite." A cultural analysis of the track notes it relies on exaggerated imagery to ridicule opponents, portraying them as individuals who lose sleep and seek supernatural help due to desperation.
Omar’s return to Minneapolis followed a two-week absence from the public eye. On Oct. 12, Homeland Security Investigations agents raided her D.C. residence. During that search, agents confiscated her passport and cellphone. Her sister, Sahra Noor, was interviewed by investigators, and federal agents also obtained Omar’s DNA, according to Fox News Digital.
On Friday, Omar cast an early ballot in Minneapolis alongside State Attorney General Keith Ellison. The two later attended lunch at the Karmel Mall of Somalia to meet with community members. Omar restricted direct replies on her video post, with only one public comment visible from former Rep. Cori Bush, who wrote, "We love this."
The investigation centers on potential fraud related to immigration paperwork filed by Omar or her father during her naturalization process. Homeland Security Investigations serves as the primary investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. If fraud is proven, the department’s border czar, Tom Homan, stated last week that Omar could be denaturalized.
