Middle Tennessee will try to extend its winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when it hosts Kennesaw State in a Conference USA matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Johnny (Red) Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with the game airing on CBS Sports Network.
The Blue Raiders enter with a 4-3 record overall and 2-1 in conference play, which leaves them tied for third in the league. They are unbeaten at home this season at 3-0. In their most recent outing, they beat Florida International 26-23.
Kennesaw State arrives in a much tougher spot. The Owls are 1-6 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA, tied for ninth in the standings. They have lost six straight games, including a 34-6 defeat to Liberty in Week 8, and have not won on the road this season, going 0-3 away from home.
The two programs have split their all-time series at one win apiece. Kennesaw State took the most recent meeting last season by a score of 24-16.
In the latest betting odds, Middle Tennessee is a 2.5-point favorite, and the over/under is set at 50.5 points.
The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every FBS game 10,000 times, leans toward the Over in this contest. Middle Tennessee has seen its last three games go over the total. According to the model, the two teams combine for 57 points in its simulations, and the Over hits 63% of the time.
The model also offers projections for the starting quarterbacks. Kennesaw State's Rickie Collins is expected to throw for nearly 250 yards and two touchdowns, while Middle Tennessee's Roman Gagliano is projected at around 230 yards and one score. Both teams come close to 30 points in the simulated results.
SportsLine says the model also sees one side of the spread covering in well over 50% of simulations, though that pick is available only through its site. The model entered Week 9 on a 68-59 run on its top-rated college football picks and returned nearly $400 for players who wagered $100.
