CBS Sports has published its NFL Week 8 picks after a middling Week 7. The analyst went 8-6 straight up and 7-6-1 against the spread, and finished 2-3 on the five locks of the week. That puts the locks at 17-17-1 on the season, with an overall record of 45-59-3 against the spread and 65-41-1 on moneyline picks. New Orleans, the New York Giants, San Francisco and Houston are on bye this week.

The first lock sends the 2-5 Colts to Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 p.m. to face the 4-2 Jaguars, who are coming off a bye. Indianapolis has lost three straight and averages 4.5 yards per play, tied with Philadelphia for the worst mark in the league. Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown an interception in all but one game this year and ranks 31st of 33 eligible passers in passer rating. Jacksonville allows an 87.7 passer rating and is tied for third in the league with seven interceptions, while Trevor Lawrence is described as playing like an MVP candidate. The projection is Jaguars 33, Colts 20, with the pick at Jaguars -7.5.

Also at 1 p.m., the Bengals host the Titans. Cincinnati scored 35 points in the second half of its win over Baltimore, and the analysis says Tennessee will struggle to keep pace if that version shows up. The Titans rank 29th in passer rating and are tied for last in yards per attempt. The Bengals defense has the third-best red zone efficiency in the NFL, allowing touchdowns on 35% of trips, while Tennessee scores on 47.4% of its red zone visits, 27th in the league. The projection is Bengals 35, Titans 21, and the pick is Bengals -10.5.

At 4:05 p.m., the winless Chargers, now 0-6, are the designated road team but will play at SoFi Stadium against the Rams. Justin Herbert enters with a league-high 5.6% turnover-worthy throw rate, and the Rams have five interceptions and allow 186.3 passing yards per game, the fourth-lowest figure in the league. Los Angeles also gives up 123.8 rushing yards per game, which could put Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in the spotlight. Both topped 90 rushing yards and scored a touchdown in a win over the Raiders. The projection is Rams 30, Chargers 17, and the pick is Rams -6.5.

New England visits Miami at 4:25 p.m. The Dolphins just earned their first win of the season, against the Jets, but the analysis doesn't expect a second straight. The Patriots are 8-4-1 against the spread on the road under Mike Vrabel and 3-2 as road favorites, winning those games by an average of 13 points. New England also had extra rest after playing last Thursday. Miami allows 5.7 yards per play and a league-high 116.8 passer rating, which should help Drake Maye. The projection is Patriots 30, Dolphins 20, and the pick is Patriots -7.5.

The Sunday night game at 8:20 p.m. on NBC pits the Eagles against the Commanders. Philadelphia played on Monday night and faces a short week against a Washington team coming off its bye. The Commanders lost receiver Terry McLaurin for the season with a torn patellar tendon suffered in Week 6, but Stefon Diggs, rookie Antonio Williams and tight end Chig Okonkwo are expected to help fill the gap. Running back Saquon Barkley appeared limited by a hamstring injury on Monday, and the Eagles are 0-2 against the spread on the road with an average margin of minus 8.0. The projection is Commanders 27, Eagles 17, and the pick is Commanders -4.

The remaining picks are Packers -3.5 over the Panthers on Thursday, Cardinals +6 at the Cowboys, Falcons +2.5 at the Buccaneers, Ravens +3.5 at the Bills, Steelers -3.5 over the Browns, Raiders +1.5 at the Jets, Lions -3.5 over the Vikings, Chiefs -1.5 at the Broncos and Seahawks -3 over the Bears on Monday. The projected scores include Packers 30-20, Cowboys 28-23, Falcons 24-20, Bills 30-27, Steelers 26-20, Raiders 24-21, Lions 27-21, Chiefs 23-20 and Seahawks 27-23.
