Lindsey Carl and Brandon Byrd married on Monday evening in Lot H of a Philadelphia stadium parking area. The ceremony took place during a tailgate event sponsored by Garage Beer, a promotion the couple entered via an Instagram giveaway.
The couple, who currently live in Chicago, identified as devoted Eagles fans. They told reporters they participate in a fan group and watch games at two specific bars in their city. Carl said the decision to enter the contest came after seeing the advertisement. The couple submitted a 90 second video to compete for the prize.
Byrd explained that the video focused on a pun involving their new surname and their team loyalty. "The main part was just 'Go Birds' because we're going to be the Byrds. That was the gist of it. And how much we love the Eagles, and that we'll drink Garage Beer for the rest of our lives," Byrd said.
The pair learned they had won the wedding roughly two and a half weeks before the game. They spent that time preparing for the event. On the day of the ceremony, Carl wore a wedding dress and Eagles cowgirl boots. Byrd wore a green suit, Eagles socks, and a feather pinned to his jacket.
Vince Rizzuto, CEO of TrueFan Travel, said the event resulted from a partnership between his company, Garage Beer, and the Philadelphia Pops. "Over the summer, we had Garage Beer reach out to us about doing a wedding, and we had our relationship with the Philly Pops. They wanted to perform at a tailgate. So, we put two and two together," Rizzuto said.
Former Eagles players Jason Kelce and Beau Allen walked down the aisle and distributed beers to guests. Shane Victorino, a former major league baseball player for the Phillies, officiated the ceremony. Carl walked down a green aisle with her father by her side. The Philadelphia Pops played music before, during, and after the vows for the couple's family and friends.
