Alan Dysert, an actor best known for playing a scheming but funny conman on the ABC soap opera "All My Children," has died at age 75. His wife, Michelle Dysert, announced the news in a statement, and he died on Friday.

"My heart is broken as I share that my beloved husband, Alan, passed away," Michelle Dysert wrote in a Facebook post on her husband's page. She said that while she is struggling to imagine life without him, she is forever grateful to have experienced "the love of a lifetime."

A cause of death was not immediately clear. Dysert had written about his long fight with cancer in a 2023 memoir titled "Lights, Camera, Cancer!" His wife said he "faced more than his share of health challenges over the years," though she did not say what they were. She added that he met life with determination, humor and gratitude.

On television, Dysert played Sean Cudahy on "All My Children," appearing on and off from 1980 to 1990. According to his IMDb page, he was in 79 episodes of the series.

His other credits include the 2006 family comedy "Two Weeks," in which he appeared alongside Sally Field. IMDb lists his most recent acting role as this year's civil war film "The Legend of Van Dorn."

Michelle Dysert described a man who grew from humble beginnings as a farm boy in Illinois into an actor, musician, writer, filmmaker, producer and acting teacher. She said many people knew him from his soap opera years, while thousands more knew him as a teacher and mentor who urged them to believe in themselves and chase their dreams.

In recent years, Dysert worked with emerging actors and professional speakers, helping them overcome their fear of speaking and performing in public.

His wife praised his "incredible gift for storytelling, a wonderful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and a personality that could fill any room." She said his life included remarkable experiences, fascinating people and enough stories for several lifetimes, and that life with him was never boring.

According to Michelle Dysert, her husband wrote in his book that he wanted his family to celebrate his life rather than mourn his death. She said he understood that life was an adventure, that tomorrow was never guaranteed, and that the greatest treasures were the people and experiences that gave life meaning.
